Thank you for your interest in the Florida International Teaching Zoo’s new veterinary assistant distant learning program.

Utilizing our staff’s exotic/zoo animal management curriculum we have tailor-made an at-home veterinary assistant program.  The DVD lecture series includes topics dealing with anesthesia, parasites, sanitation, pharmacology, nutrition, taxonomy, public management, diseases and containment and more.  The staff continues to update and expand the lecture series for zoo and performing animal professionals.

Completion of the veterinary assistant program leads to certification by the Florida International teaching Zoo.  Additionally, we have developed two levels of certification:

1. Level one is the Lecture Audit Program.  This level consists of the DVD lecture series only.
   
   
2. Level Two, or full certification, includes the dvd lecture series plus the “Veterinary skills session.”  The “skills” session will include Fecal Parasite analysis, injection laboratory, specimen preparation, and emergency capture equipment training.  The “skills” session must be arranged with the course director.

The Florida International Teaching Zoo is a Federal (US) 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.  All fees are tax deductible donations which will be used for animal education and conservation programs.
